Residents of Victory Gardens Condominiums came together for a vibrant neighbourhood social with a purpose, inviting the Fonthill Lions Club to host a community BBQ in support of local charitable initiatives. The event took place on June 20 at 1398 Pelham Street in Pelham and showcased the power of community connection and giving back.
The BBQ was organized by the Victory Gardens Condominium Corporation, with all proceeds directed toward Fonthill Lions community service initiatives. In addition, Victory Gardens made a generous $1,037 donation to support local community efforts through the Fonthill Lions Club.
With grills fired up and volunteers at the ready, the Fonthill Lions served a menu of their well-loved favourites, familiar to many from the Pelham Supper Market. Attendees enjoyed the signature Lion Burger, a hearty combination of a beef burger, peameal and melted cheese, along with other favourites including burgers, sausages and peameal on a bun, all prepared fresh and served with the Lions’ trademark hospitality.
“Events like this truly reflect what it means to serve,” said Steven Pellerin, Past President of the Fonthill Lions Club. “When a community like Victory Gardens brings people together for a simple BBQ and turns it into meaningful support for others, it captures the spirit of who we are as Lions. We are proud to be part of that and to continue giving back in ways that make a difference locally.”
The Fonthill Lions Club has been serving the Pelham community for more than 80 years, supporting a wide range of local initiatives, events and charitable causes. Their work is guided by the Lions International motto “We Serve,” created in 1954 by Fonthill Lion Doug Stephenson and selected from more than 6,000 entries worldwide.
From community events and fundraisers to hands-on volunteer service, the Lions continue to play a vital role in strengthening the social fabric of Pelham and surrounding areas. Their presence at gatherings like the Victory Gardens social reflects an ongoing commitment to building community while supporting those in need.
The success of the event is a testament to what can be achieved when neighbours, volunteers and local organizations come together with a shared purpose.
